The Tiny Treasures tour is specifically designed to show our travelers some of the many hidden treasures present in our peninsula. The Medieval and Renaissance 'Borghi' that this tour will let you explore represents the most fascinating jewels of our historically and culturally rich country.

Sample Itinerary

 

Day 1 - Depart to Rome

Most flights from the U.S. depart in the evening and arrive in Rome the following morning.

Day 2 - Rome to Spoleto

Arrive at Fiumicino Airport in Rome where a private bus will transport you to Spoleto. After settling into your room at Palazzo Leti, one of the top 20 exclusive residences of epoch in Italy, begin your exploration of this enchanting town by taking an evening walk through the Medieval streets of Spoleto. Discover Roman ruins and traditional local shops along the way.

Day 3 - Orvieto & Bagnoregio

Situated atop an imposing cliff, Orvieto is the perfect example of how Ancient and Renaissance cultures blended to create something incredibly unique. Step into a fully intact Etruscan tomb at the Museo Civico and take in Luca Signorelli’s magnificent frescoes in the Duomo. Continue on to Civita di Bagnoregio, a small village suspended in time and space. Isolated from the rest of the countryside, it is accessible only to pedestrians and animals via a narrow bridge.

Day 4 - Tivoli

A day in Tivoli takes you from the grandeur of ancient Rome to the excess and splendor of the Baroque. Gain insight into the tastes and daily life of one of history’s most enigmatic emperors with a visit to Hadrian's Villa (100AD). Built over a thousand years later, Villa d'Este (1500AD) and its incredible gardens, offer you a glimpse of the pomp and circumstance that permeated the life of a Catholic cardinal.

Day 5 - Free Day in Spoleto

Famous for its 'Festival of Two Worlds,’ Spoleto is a charming medieval town loved for its magnificent monuments and delicious food. Take a bite of the local pizza al taglio while wandering the cobblestone streets and exploring the local shops. Indulge in the world’s best gelato al pistacchio from Gelateria Crispini as you stroll around la Rocca. Enjoy an aperitivo before dinner while admiring the unique marriage of nature and architecture that inspired the words of the famous German poet Goethe. 

Day 6 - Siena

Visit Siena, one of the most beautiful cities in Italy, located in the heart of the Tuscan hills. Have lunch at a traditional trattoria like La Torre and experience Siena’s culinary tradition, rich with unique pasta and tasty long-stewed meats. Wander around Piazza del Campo, home of the Palio, and take in the beautiful frescoes in the Duomo and Palazzo Pubblico.

Day 7 - Monteleone

Venture into the Apennine Mountains to the remote town of Monteleone. Meet Domenico Angelini and his family to learn how saffron is cultivated and used in traditional desserts or how sheep’s milk is turned into savory Pecorino cheese on their farm. A home-cooked meal prepared by Domenico himself is the perfect conclusion to the day.

Day 8 - Perugia & Bevagna

The biggest city in Umbria and home to one of the oldest universities in Europe, Perugia boasts a vast array of structures dating back to the Middle Ages and Renaissance. Uncover the secrets of the Rocca Paolina, a fortress built by Pope Paul III, and admire the paintings of Raphael and Perugino in the Galleria Nazionale. Descend into the valley for a beautiful sunset dinner in Bevagna.

Day 9 - Assisi & Montefalco

Start your day in Assisi learning the secrets of Medieval war atop Rocca Maggiore. Visit the Basilicas of St. Claire and St. Francis, where you can admire Giotto’s spectacular Renaissance frescoes. End the day by relaxing, watching the sunset, and sipping the famous wine in Montefalco, known for its Sagrantino grapes that produce the delicious wines of Umbria.

Day 10 - Travel Day Home

Depart Spoleto around 6:30 am for Fiumicino airport, arriving in Rome around 8:30 am. Flights home depart after 12 pm.

Cost - starts at $2800

This itinerary is best suited for families and small private groups of 6 or more travelers. Prices are in U.S. dollars, per person, and based on double occupancy for a group of 6. The single room supplement for this tour is $550.
